about

cube breath uses freeware resources created by developers david haupt, paul kellett, chris kerry, jeff mcclintock, hermann seib, etric van mayer, and vst technology by steinberg.

understandably, this software is distributed with no guarantee to the end user.

setup

cube breath.dll is a vst plug-in and uses a savihost wrapper ("cubebreath.exe") to run as a standalone application. it is a simple executable, and there is no registration. make sure the .dll, .exe and .wavs are all in the same folder.

when you run the program, a folder is created to unpack compressed files. cube breath takes SEVERAL SECONDS to start, so when you click the icon, sit back and be patient. wait until the word 'Ready' appears at the bottom of the gui.

PLEASE: DON'T TRY AND OPEN FOLDERS OR DO ANYTHING WHILE CUBE BREATH IS INITIALISING. WAIT UNTIL THE WORD 'READY' APPEARS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GUI, OR IT WILL CRASH.

ONCE CUBE BREATH HAS OPENED, YOU'RE GOOD. THEN YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU LIKE W/O CRASHING

the savihost wrapper allows you to configure audio devices and latency under the Devices>Wave tab. for best results with microphone, adjust the latency (audio buffer) setting to the shortest time without breakups. this will depend on the power of your cpu and audio card.

vst:

since cubebreath.dll uses vst technology, it "should" also work as a VST effect in any VST host compatible with mono-in dual-out. NOTE: MOST vst hosts are NOT compatible with 1-in 2-out format

use

please note that a cpu of 1.5g or higher is recommended for cube breath.

to start, make sure the little cog thingy at the top is in. this lets it go.

use of cube breath as a music generator is similar to using any tape deck or cd player, with run and stop controls, and an 'auto' function to automatically restart after a few seconds for continuous play.

a microphone attached to your pc can be used to create stunning top chart style hits. any words you speak into the microphone will be tuned to a melody for a popular chart topping singing effect, using mda's talkbox effect. remember not to cuss if you want to get your song on the air.

now you can sing any message instantly, without the costly expense of hiring today's finest producers and production equipment. yes indeed.

use the left slider to amplify the signal from the microphone. it is recommended to have the slider at the lowest setting you can hear clearly.

you can use the noise reduction (nr) to silence the microphone when you are not speaking if you have a noisy signal. it is also best to keep this slider at the lowest possible setting.

be sure to change your song name before pressing the record button again!

license and distribution

cube breath is free. don't sell it. if you enjoy cube breath and think you can spare it, flip me $10 on paypal, there should be a link on my homepage ;)

resources

cube breath was created with jeff mcclintock's modular synthesis and vst publishing software SYNTHEDIT. several third party modules coded for synthedit (sep/sem files) by david haupt, chris kerry and etric van mayer were used.

the voice tuning effect is accomplished with paul kellett's 'mda talkbox' vst.

savihost vst standalone application was created by hermann seib.

all of these resources were made available for free, as were many other sources of information that contributed to development.

i extend not only my gratitude to all parties for their contributions, but an invitation to cube breath users to expand their knowledge of synthesis by using these freewares!
