about

breathcure was created with synthedit and uses savihost to run as an executable. it relies on resources created by david haupt, chris kerry, jeff mcclintock, hermann seib, etric van mayer, and vst technology by steinberg.

this freeware is distributed with no guarantee to the end user :)

version history:
1.0 dec 21 2004 - initial release
1.1 apr 17 2006 - add lyrics display caption

install

unpack all the files to the same location.

breathcube.exe takes several seconds to open even on fast pcs, please be patient. wait until the word 'Ready' appears at the bottom of the gui.

please note that a cpu of 1.5g or higher is recommended for breathcube. output may depend on your audio driver settings.

operation

to start, make sure the little cog icon at the top is in.

press play. other controls are stop, continuous play, and volume.

to record the output, press the 'record' button (red dot) before pressing the play button. recording will automatically start at play.

make sure to give each song a unique title to avoid recording over them!

troubleshooting:
if output is fragmented, try increasing the latency or reducing the sample rate of your audio card. since the .exe file is essentially a 'shell' vst host, you might try running breathcube in a vst host (requires all files but the .exe) for better performance.

there may be slight pauses in playback when loading samples for the first time.

other bugs:
the output of the long 'o' formant is the most dependent on source oscillator waveform. due to the random nature of the sounds created in breathcube, sometimes this vowel or others may sound 'wrong.' occasionally the randomised effects settings may combine to produce extremely high resonances or delay regenerations which will produce distorted sounds. variety keeps things interesting :)

license and distribution

breathcube is free. you may not sell it in any way whatsoever.

i do not have a paypal account at present time. if you wish to make a donation (i currently work at an abandoned pig shelter after being homeless for a few months after my studio was stolen!) please donate to chris kerry or jeff mcclintock

resources

breathcube was created with jeff mcclintock's modular synthesis and vst publishing software SYNTHEDIT. several third party modules coded for synthedit (sep/sem files) by david haupt, chris kerry and etric van mayer were used.

savihost vst wrapper standalone application was created by hermann seib. thank you hermann :)

all of these resources were made available for free, as were many other sources of information that contributed to development.

my gratitude to all parties for their contributions!

thank you also to martin walker and sound on sound professional audio recording magazine for mentioning cubebreath in april 2005 issue! :)

breathcube is atomic traveller 02

cubebreath (01) uses the same music engine but allows the user to speak into a microphone so their words are tuned to the vocal melody - you can 'sing your office announcements into a number one hit single!'

at3 uses physical modeling synthesis for acoustic bass, guitar chords and bongo drums to rapidly create a 'beatnik lounge' atmosphere.
